Ibiza is the party island of Spain. You go there to listen to world-famous DJ’s, blow all your money, party in a massive club and drink all day on the beach, if you are not too hungover of course. We enjoyed two nights in Ibiza, which our wallets were very happy about, due to the expensiveness of everything on the island.
How we got there
We flew with Ryanair return from Valencia. This was a very short 25-minute flight, which was much more appealing to us than the 3-8hr ferry rides for a similar price. Ryanair is a budget airline. However, if you are carrying 7kg or more of luggage you will need to pay extra for baggage.
Where we stayed
This was our first time booking an Airbnb accommodation. We were aware Ibiza was expensive, and as we were booking close to the date, resort or hotel accommodation was close to 200 AUD a night. We booked our accommodation in Ibiza Town, so it was centrally located, close to the beach (could literally see the ocean from our window), bus stops, major clubs, resorts and restaurants. We had our own room in a 2 bedroom apartment shared with the host. Our host was very discreet and made our first experience with air bnb very pleasant.
What we did
Drink cocktails on a sunbed
The Ibiza beach is filled with beachfront resorts and bars, where you can hire a sunbed and drink cocktails or just pull up a towel of your own on the sand. Always a good vibe on the beaches and you have plenty of choices to enjoy a few drinks or have lunch. We hired out a couple of sunbeds for 20 euro, but you can pay up to 150 euro for a bit more luxury.
See the historic walls of Old Ibiza Town
It is a lot of walking but worth the panoramic views of the island, Mediterranean Sea, mountains on the other side and the Ibiza Town below. There is even some cute houses and cafes along the stairs if you wish to stop and grab a drink or bite to eat. Perfect activity for sweating out the alcohol from the night before.
Grab some tickets to a club or boat party
Ushuaia and Pacha seemed to be the most popular and expensive clubs in Ibiza Town. However, with our tight budget we decided to head 20 minutes to San Antoni by bus to see the sunset on the other side of the island. We got tickets for pre-drinks at an open bar called Rio and then entry into Es Paradis for 40 euro each. It doesn't matter what club you decide to go to, the drinks will be expensive, so make the most of the open bars. One beer and a vodka soda cost us 20 euro (about 32 AUD). Our time in Ibiza was not very long, and if our budget allowed we would have stayed another night and joined one of the many boat parties on offer from the island.
How we got around
We easily got around by bus. The L14 got us almost everywhere besides San Antoni.
Final Note
Ibiza is a beautiful island, with mountains on one side of the town, bright blue sea on the other and smaller islands visible on the horizon. It was a beautiful town to just wander around and explore, and live and party like a celebrity for a few days.
