Koh Rong is a small island off the south coast of Cambodia, a short ferry ride from Sihanoukville. The island was once a fishing village, but is now a holiday destination. Although mostly underdeveloped, Koh Rong is still popular among foreigners, despite the lack of Wi-Fi, ATMs, roads or Air Conditioning. This island is perfect for relaxing, but still has a popular night life in the evenings. There are plenty of things to do in Koh Rong, and perfect for any type of tourist.

THINGS TO DO IN KOH RONG
1. Kayak to Beaches and Islands
You can rent a kayak from the beachfront of Koh Touch Beach (the main strip of restaurants) and explore nearby islands and beaches, or just kayak around the coast. You can kayak out to Koh Touch Island (small Island) or also known as Pagoda Island or to nearby Long-Set Beach and Police Beach. Although Koh Rong is a small island, you wont be able to kayak around in a full day, so just stick to the nearby locations.
2. Enjoy Snorkelling on a Boat Tour
There are plenty of boat tours on offer at Koh Touch Beach. All tours offer the same itinerary - snorkelling, fishing, visit long Beach, dinner and witness the luminescent plankton. We tried to discuss doing a customised or private tour, but this wasn't an option for some operators.
3. Walk to Nearby Beaches
Instead of kayaking, walk to beaches close by. You can walk along the coast to White Beach and Long-Set Beach (4K Beach) like we did. However, we ended up getting caught in the rain, and being able to walk back, and ended staying for lunch at the Nest Beach Club.
4. Trek Through the Jungle to Long Beach (Sok San Beach)
Trek the 40-minute walk to Long Beach from Koh Touch. Walk up the stairs to the Sky Bar, and follow the jungle track from there. You can stop at Windy Stone, or other spots for views of neighbouring Koh Rong Sanloem island. Long Beach is where survivor was filmed, and a great spot to relax. Whilst you are there visit the Sok San Village. Watch the sunset at Long Beach, and then take a taxi boat back to Koh Touch.

5. Day trip to Koh Rong Sanloem
Koh Rong Sanloem is Koh Rong's younger brother. There are less tourists here, and you basically get a feel of what Koh Rong was like. Relax on the beaches or explore the jungle.
6. Have a Drink at Sky Bar
For one of the best views in Koh Rong, head up the stairs to Sky Bar. They serve a delish vegetarian burger. Relax with a drink and watch the sunset.
HOW TO GET TO KOH RONG
Koh Rong is a short 45-minute ferry ride from Sihanoukville. You can either book a return ferry ticket from Sihanoukville like the options below, or book a bus/minivan package from other destinations in Cambodia, with an open-date return ticket (we booked this option through our guesthouse in Kmapot). This gave us flexibility on when we wanted to leave. If you have an open-date return ticket, make sure you book your spot on the return ferry the day before from the middle pier in Koh Touch. You can also book onwards transport from Sihanoukville at the middle pier.
Ferry from Sihanoukville
You can either choose to arrive at the Koh Touch Pier or Long Beach (Sok San) Pier. All other areas on the island are only accessed by walking or local boat taxis.

HOW TO GET AROUND KOH RONG
There are no roads for cars on Koh Rong. That means the only means of transport is walking, boat taxis or scooters in the dry season. We visited in the wet season, and the tracks were not suitable for scooters then.
There are boat taxis available at Koh Touch Beach that offer rides to any destinations around the island, as well as to Koh Rong Sanloem.
You can download the Koh Rong App for advice on moto roads and walking trails, or use the Maps.me App.
