Manjuyod Sandbar is a 1 hour drive from Dumaguete, which makes it a perfect day trip and can also be combined with Balinsasayao Twin Lakeson the way back. The tour of Manjuyod Sandbar consists of two sandbars and a dolphin watching experience. One sandbar holds a line of houses on stilts, which are closely reminiscent to the huts of the Maldives, although much less extravagant. It’s a totally unique experience anyone should do from Dumaguete.

HOW TO GET TO MANJUYOD SANDBAR FROM DUMAGUETE
Manjuyod Sandbar can either be visited on a day tour from Dumaguete or by one’s self. We decided to be adventurous and take our scooter the 1 hour from Dumaguete to Canibol Wharf. We left at 4:30am and arrived close to 6:00am (with stops for sunrise along the way) to catch the first boats to the sandbar, in hope that we would see some dolphins and that the tide would be low.
However, as we were the only ones there that early, we were required to pay for the whole boat that would otherwise be split between 5 people. The cost of one boat is 1500 PHP ($45 AUD) and 2000 PHP ($60 AUD) if you wanted to include a dolphin watching experience as well. We decided to pay the 1500PHP for the boat to the sandbar, and skip the dolphin watching, which we believe was the best decision to make. WHAT TO EXPECT ON A MANJUYOD SANDBAR TOUR
The boat tours from Canibol Wharf take tourists to 2 separate sandbars. It depends on the tide as to whether both will be revealed. The first sandbar was a large stretch of sand in the middle of the ocean. We arrived early, but it didn’t take long for many more boats to arrive and people to flood the small island.
The next sandbar was only a few minutes away, but the tide wasn’t quite low enough for it to reveal itself. However, what was unique about this place was the houses that were built on stilts, resembling those of the Maldives. Some even offer accommodation for 4000 PHP ($120 AUD) per night. The houses are very basic, with no electricity and little space, but are a unique experience nonetheless. Both sandbars offered banana boat and biscuit rides for some extra bit of fun. Otherwise, It was a chance to wander around and splash about in the water.
If heading back to Dumaguete after your Manjuyod Sandbar tour, then make sure to stop over at Balinsasayao Twin Lakes Nature Park. This place is truly beautiful and offers many activities, such as relaxing by the lake, kayaking, row boats and walking around the lake to the bird watch tower.
