HOW TO GET TO SUGBA LAGOON

Sugba Lagoon is located off the North-West coast of Siargao Island in the Philippines, therefore it is only accessible by boat. Boat tours to Sugba Lagoon leave from the town of Del Carmen daily. If staying near the popular area of General Luna, it is a 1-hour scooter ride there. However, some tours do leave from General Luna. CHECK OUT OUR RECOMMENDATIONS FOR TOUR PROVIDERS BELOW.

HOW TO BOOK A SUGBA LAGOON TOUR

If you like to book ahead, then make sure you book a tour online, from tour offices in General Luna, or from your accommodation. However, it is also possible to arrive in Del Carmen early enough to catch one of the early tours.

The tour office in Del Carmen opens at 8:00am, so it is advised to arrive before then for a chance to get an early boat. There are multiple tours you can choose from, and all include visiting Sugba Lagoon and other locations along the way.

We chose Tour D and visited three spots - Sugba Lagoon, Kawhagan Island, and Pamomoan Beach. We recommend customising your tour with the boat driver, and heading to Kawhagan Island and Pamomoan Beach first. It is also worth noting that you can only stay 3 hours maximum in Sugba Lagoon and the Lagoon closes at 3pm. CHECK OUT OUR RECOMMENDATIONS FOR TOUR PROVIDERS BELOW.

HOW MUCH IS A SUGBA LAGOON TOUR?

We recommend finding a group of at least 4-6 people to join in on a Sugba Lagoon Tour. This will help bring the price of the tour down as you can split the cost between everyone. A Sugba Lagoon Tour booked at the Del Carmen office for a 3-location tour was 2500PHP ($75AUD) or a 2-location tour was 2000PHP ($60 AUD) for the whole boat. We split the cost between 6 people, which worked out to be 420PHP ($12.50 AUD) per person. To enter the Sugba Lagoon conservation area, we also had to pay 100 PHP ($3 AUD) environmental fee per person.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN A SUGBA LAGOON TOUR?

The tour includes a visit to the locations in your tour package. We visited Kawhagan Island first, which was a perfect decision as we had most of the island to ourselves. However, the tide was still a little high so we didn't experience the full sandbar, but enough to take some cool photos with the drone.

Just across the water is Pamomoan Beach. This place was enjoyed by locals, and there is even a restaurant here, which would be perfect for lunch. We walked a little further to the right to see the bent trees over the water. We stayed here for hours.

Our third stop was Sugba Lagoon. You cannot take food and drinks into the premises, and you cannot purchase food here either. Therefore, we recommend eating food at either Kawhagan Island or Pamomoan Beach. You can only stay 3 hours in Sugba Lagoon, so there is plenty of time to enjoy the area. You can either jump off the diving board, or hire a kayak or paddle board (300PHP/$9 AUD for one hour) to explore the lagoon further. We took the drone up here to see what the area looks like from above, and it was jaw-dropping.
